What does it mean to be a fan? In an attempt to increase student attendance at IU Men’s Soccer games, I focused on communicating the true essence of being a fan to Indiana University students, specifically freshmen. In order to do this I went back to the basics and asked myself what I do when I try to find the definition of something. The answer was simple. I look it up in the dictionary. Inspired, I put my own spin on a dictionary entry and focused on creating content that expressed the true value and spirit that comes with being a fan of the Indiana University Men’s Soccer team. Single page print advertisements and magazine spreads were created featuring these new definitions, and were also made to fit the standard size of an Instagram ad. In an effort to evoke social membership, a T-Shirt was made to be handed out to students at soccer games. The T-Shirt features the soccer team’s fan base name on the front, and the inspired definition of what it means to be a fan on the back.
